For the last seven years I've been the lead designer on custom paint designs for all custom orders at SAGE Titanium. Owner David Rosen and I have worked on a lot of custom bikes, including road, gravel, cyclocross, mountain bike... and even a few dirt jumpers. Half the customers have an idea of what they want while the other half let us flex our artistic muscles and come up with whatever we want, and both are equally fun to work on. I enjoy working out the designs but I love it when the painters add their personal touches which elevate the whole bike to something really premium. It's all in the details and thankfully the painters are meticulous and enjoy their work as much as I do.
